In the book, the author deals with stories, adventures and misadventures, about 24 years of “pure” volunteering activities since 1992 (the beginning of the conflicts in the Balkans) until 2016. A group of volunteers who were close to CGIL Trade Union suddenly decided to rig up an association. Later, it was dedicated to Luciano Lama, and it became a Ngo. It works in favor of the victims of the war and in particular in Bosnia, with three goals: emergency, reconstruction and training of a society based on peace. Over time,185 aid trucks were collected and distributed in the refugee camps and in the conflict zones, during the war. Community centers, halfway houses and different factories have been built in the context of development cooperation projects. 47 temporary hospitalities in Italy have been organized until 2016 for 16,750 children, in order to approach them to the culture of peace, tolerance and solidarity. The author also underlines that in this field, “true solidarity” comes from the eight poorest southern regions of Italy, mainly from Sicily and from the families with economic restrictions.
